Although rare, orthodontic emergencies do happen. Our emergency orthodontist in Bend, OR, is ready to help when the unexpected occurs. Whether you’re in pain from an appliance or a bracket that has come loose and needs to be reattached, don’t wait, call Timber Orthodontics today!
If you're experiencing pain that goes beyond the typical soreness after starting orthodontic treatment, your appliance may need to be checked. Here are a few of the most common orthodontic emergencies we treat:
General Soreness – While we don’t usually classify this as an “emergency,” we never want you to suffer. When you're dealing with general soreness, especially after getting your braces on, a warm saltwater rinse can help. Just dissolve one teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of warm water and swish for 30 seconds. Over-the-counter pain relievers like Tylenol or Ibuprofen can also offer relief.
Broken, Poking, or Loose Wires – Wires can sometimes shift or break, causing them to poke your cheeks or gums. If this happens, give us a call. Until you can be seen, place a small piece of orthodontic wax on the poking wire for comfort.
Broken Brackets – If a bracket becomes detached or falls off, place it in a clean envelope or bag and bring it to your appointment. Do not try to glue or reattach it yourself. Instead give us a call so we can get you in for a repair.
Even if the issue seems minor, it’s important to contact us. Temporary at-home fixes can help with comfort but won’t resolve the underlying issue. When an orthodontic appliance isn’t functioning properly, it can delay your progress, and in some cases, extend your treatment. Call Timber Orthodontics or schedule an appointment as soon as you experience an ortho emergency.
